The Problem
In our pediatric psychiatry Emergency Department (ED) and Consult-Liaison (CL) services, handoffs are often inconsistent, with key details, like recent medication changes, IVC status, and cross-cover tasks, sometimes missing. This makes it harder for physicians to provide safe, timely care, and increases the risk of errors or delays.
Our Solution
We plan to implement an AI-assisted handoff system that pulls key patient information from the chart, structures critical fields, and gently prompts physicians for missing details. The goal is to make handoffs more complete and accurate while keeping the process practical and physician friendly.
Anticipated Impact
This project will give physicians reliable, up-to-date information at hand, improving patient safety and workflow. By reducing gaps and errors in handoffs it saves time, supports better clinical decisions, and could serve as a model for other pediatric psychiatry services.
