Challenge

Oncology has recently launched a successful new patient access center in Wake County. However, scaling this service is hindered by inefficient medical record review and manual processes at intake. Patient access staff spend too much time searching and entering data, leaving little room to focus on an improved patient experience.

Solution

We aim to automate data collection required for new patient intake in oncology. We will use GPT-4 with RAG to collect data from multiple sources and generate a concise patient report and patient summary that indicates specialty and clinical urgency for new patient appointments. The pilot will focus on breast cancer patients in Wake County.

Impact

Our automated pipeline aims to reduce manual work and improve the patient experience. While focused on the oncology patient population, it is easily scalable across the health system to improve access and experience in our specialty care areas. There is currently a significant amount of waste in the patient intake process and this represents an opportunity to build an infrastructure for data capture around a ubiquitous process.
